Adventures in Japan..Pt 2..Temples of Kyoto

When you see the Temples of Kyoto in the flesh they, quite simply, take your breath away. When you see the crafsmanship that is century's old, is it any wonder why the old Bonsai's of Japan are so detailed and beautiful? i will post the surrounding gardens in a separate thread as, yet again, the workmanship is stunning. To see the connection of ascetics in the buildings infused into the way the Japanese do Bonsai it is little wonder that they have Masterpieces. It also leads me to believe that Australian Bonsai will have their Masterpieces. It just needs time and patience. When looking at the following photos please take in the detail of workmanship and it will give you an insight as to why this cultures Bonsai are so detailed and exacting. What really blows me away is, that these where all handcrafted. No such thing as a power tool or nail gun. See all the little brass fittings everywhere...they are covering the holes that holds things together

I am enjoying your posts Bodhi, I hope that one day in the not too distant future I will be lucky enough to make my own trip to Japan to see "bonsai".
But as this post points out there is other beauty awaiting me and the entire experience will be one to savour.

I was lucky enough to be there just before the leaves dropped on those beautiful maples at that temple in Kyoto. It was completely packed!

what can i say??

I have always loved the japanese style and architecture, one day when i get to have my own land and build a house it is going to be very japanese orientated, I love the temples and the roofing, the handcrafted workmanship in these pics are of the highest quality, it just goes to show if you do things right the first time, you will have something that will last a very long time (especially in bonsai). getting things sorted out early is definately a key
