but if i carve it concave it will be better for the healing. it would also definately work carving down into the trunk too, i did that once and killed a tree from doing it so i will most likely let it roll

I have a simple philosophy, if its meant to be, it will be, if not then nature will give me the next direction to take. EG my purple leaf plum, I had intended carving right out & bending to hell and back, nature said NO, break here & start again

Who am i to argue with that?
I think I have lost more trees to brutal work after recouperating than collecting or anything else, but when it does work, it works brilliantly. They are all just stock no matter how old, advanced or 'finished'.
