yes mate, i like to feed heavy these guys just constantly power on, and power on and power on, then they slow a little when feed isnt kept up to them, from what i have found anyways so a constant feed i feel is needed while in a development growth stage

before my computer went down i had some inspiration pics for this one, now i cant even find them again here are a couple that are close but not exactly. i am aiming for the amount of ramification though

one has a more pointed crown, not sure if i want that or the rounded one, i originally wanted a more round canopy like the one in leaf, or half round whichever you want to call it

i got some pics of this one today as MattA has a tree that he is doing at the moment with a similar plan to mine, sort of, im going for a more dense look but this is how it is progressing so far, i didnt realise it until i seen the pictures i took that this one ended up with a little colour, the leaves were just about had it anyways so i removed them. and since it was defoliated i took the oppurtunity to wire it out and get some rough placing, i will be letting these grow on more to create the base structure of the tree then i will be developing the ramification

Looking good Jamie, are you planning on carving down into that stump any more or are you hoping to have it roll over & heal the cut?

im not quite sure yet, i have to carve into the cut more anyways so it rolls over better, my original plan was to have it roll over, and it has started to do so, so far but if i carve it concave it will be better for the healing. it would also definately work carving down into the trunk too, i did that once and killed a tree from doing it so i will most likely let it roll

Dont ever fear killing a tree.

I have a simple philosophy, if its meant to be, it will be, if not then nature will give me the next direction to take. EG my purple leaf plum, I had intended carving right out & bending to hell and back, nature said NO, break here & start again Who am i to argue with that?

I think I have lost more trees to brutal work after recouperating than collecting or anything else, but when it does work, it works brilliantly. They are all just stock no matter how old, advanced or 'finished'.

make em or break em matty that is the way i normally go, i think a carved out trunk could work well with this one but the nebari and tachiagari on this one is too good to carve it out i reckon there is another celtis i have with a nice nebari/tachiagari that could possibly see some carving in the future, it is an informal upright plan for that one, its in the ground right now

cheers DK the nebari is why i collected this tree, when i was looking for them the first thing i looked for was a decent nebari, the rest didnt matter as it can be regrown. the muscling of the trees only come from the nebari pulling the section of trunk out (tachiagari)

just another update!

I am really excited bout this tree coming into spring, it is definatly powering on and its just gonna go harder!

I am considering that i will go with clip and grow come mid to late spring, wiring is becoming imcreasingly difficult with branches getting in the way, so best to go clip and grow, it will also give a better image by utilising the growth and getting the dense ramification that I want

what do you reckon??

thanks heaps, very happy with the progress so far, it still needs a lot of time though! right now its a matter of thickening main branches then building ramification, I would say another 5-10 years and it will be getting close to somewhere abouts where I picture is

I thought I would updat this one as i put it in an oversized pot to continue its training. it gave me the chance to check out the root system aswell, didnt get pics of that as there isnt a whole lot to show yet but i can say it is developing nicely

just a little date from the last time. I removed the wire and rewired and did a defoliation. this is a week or three after the defoliation and I love it when the leaves are like this, eventually when the tree is at a older stage the leaves will actually reduce to this size of around 5-10mm they are great in that side of things.
I reckon these guys are like the chinese elm in the sense they are semi deciduous as here they didnt drop there leaves and go into a full dormancy, they did slow down somewhat but overall were pretty good

I love this tree, I was trying to sell it as I needed the money but I have put to much into it now to let it go, I have grown quite atached as it was really the first tree I ever collected.
