hey everyone,
can anyone show me some pictures or describe what Japanese, Trident, and Amure maples look like when the seedlings come up? if anyone could do this it would be much appreciated, ive put maple seeds down and have some coming up but im not sure if its them or some other weed popping up. cheers simo

Just a green Stem with usually 2 leaves on it. the leaves will not look like the parent species until the 2nd set of leaves form after a few weeks so you have to be patient

nice to here you got some maples on the go mate, i see you joined up to the bonsai club in lismore, might meet you next month then mate didnt make it to this months meeting. :D

nice one. i heard that you get a good %80 strike rate with fresh maple seeds, but if they are very old supposedly they are not likely to strike at all, so yeah i'm putting it to the test because i currently have old dry ones sown, and fresher ones sown. with all this rain they will be loving it. hopefully cyu at the meeting. cheers.

Here are the maples that have just poped up in the last few days, i put them down two weeks ago and its winter!!! it amazes me how little our winter on the far north coast of nsw has on them from growing. im so greatfull now i have plenty of whips to work with haha :D thanks to apline's post, and kcpoole for supplying the seeds, it was the nudge i needed to inspire me to do this.
i will keep the progression photos coming as they grow. 8-) cheers simo ;)

yeah cool, its still cold here at night but when the sun is out its quite pleasent. :) they will be raging through summer i bet. let me know how yours go if you want. cheers
