References in Discussion Topics to prior posts

Post by mashby »

Hi everyone
In many of the discussion topics I have read and sometimes contibuted to, I have noticed that people often quote whole or part of another member's prior post of that topic. The quote is usually in a pink coloured box above the later member's own comments.

Can someone tell me how to insert these quotes into a posting I might like to make. I tried just hitting the "quote" button to the left of a post I wanted to comment on but all it did was to place the words "Quote - member's name" and their comments into my post without any distinction.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Michael
Welcome to the wonders of BB code. When you hit quote see the brackets that appear - you cut and paste the quote you want and insert in between the brackets. I usually make the space bettween the brackets bigger with the space bar - I find it hard to paste accurately without a bigger space. Whatever is in between the brackets will then appear as a quote.

gday pal :D

you can also quote a whole pots by scrolling down in the reply page to where the previous posts have been made and up in the right hand corner of each post is a "quote" button.

also if you are reading a post in the thread and want to reply to it with a quote there is a quote butting up next to the report post and edit buttons.

While we are on the subject is there any need to quote some ones entire post directly under it like I have here. Just seems to make a mess of the thread
