Hi Bonsaikay,

Is this going to be a bonsai show? I would be interested to hear how the Swiss cope with bonsais over winter since we have none to speak of where I live - temperature has NEVER got to freezing or below, even at night.

Glenda

Edit: I checked out the website. Looks very impressive. Wish I could be there!

See also the European Bonsai Association website on http://www.ebabonsai.com/ and the European Suiseki Association one on http://www.esasuiseki.com/
It's worth having a look at the exhibitions of past conventions; for EBA go to Gallery --> Conventions. It is also worth remembering that there are a lot of imported Japanese bonsai in Europe and that it is sometimes hard to know which trees - junipers, pines, maples and shohin bonsai especially - originated in the country which exhibited them. I tried to gauge the height of the bonsai shown these last years, to see if Liporace's statement that Europe was mainly growing medium-to-small size bonsai was accurate, but from photos it is just too difficult to judge.
The Zurich people are indeed going to extraordinary lengths to make the 2010 show an outstanding event and I wish I could visit it! All the more since Switzerland has some quite exceptional bonsai artists, like Serge Clemence, Pius Notter and Peter Thali.
Bonsaikay, I wish you much success, you deserve it.

Walter Pall has followed up with a really beautiful series of photos of the bonsai exhibited at this convention. Some fabulous trees!

Nicola Crivelli took a heap of pics too. I love the way the show was set up like a museum or gallery.

Walter is funny!
Betula pendula, birch. Styled to look like a birch. How outrageous!

And here we discuss if we are allowed to make trees look like something other than it is :)

It looks like an amazing display lots of variety there. It will be a joy to see these images again and again.
