my first autumn colour

Hey peeps,

as the weather started cooling and my trees have slowed down their growth rate i was starting to wonder if i woudl see any autumn foliage. some trees like my crab apple dropped all their leaves within a week but the rest didnt appear to be doing much. and then bang, it seems in the past week and a bit autumn is kicking in! here are some pics of the atumun colour i am startign to see. this is my first autumn as a bonsai enthusiast so i am excited to see and study the change in my trees. The first is my indian crepe myrtle., the second is my chinese quince. the others are of flowers on my apricot and prunus elvins. I defoliated and forced bud break on next seasons flowers. Oops!

Very nice Astro, love the Indian crepe myrtle. That looks like a good subject just for its colour alone.

its an indian crepe myrtle. it has white flowers instead of the pink and purple seen most places. It didnt do anything for a long time then the leaves went from green to an almost pyurple and from there went pruple to red. as u can see in the pic some of the leaves are still turning red

its funny, cos i bought that crepe myrtle from flower power last winter. it was on sale and had a spilt trunk so i cut it back and forgot about it. mid summer i noticed it grwos quite quickyl so i defloiated it and a branch grew from every defoliated leaf. this winter i am goign to put it in the ground and let it grow out all next season to thicken up the trunk then i will cut her back and start again. its funny how the trees u discard or think arent that good end up being the little beauties u treasure

the chinese quince has great potential too. not many branches on it at the moment as i am trying to train a new leader and ticken it up to get even taper. the base is quite thick and curved (there are previous posts on this).

chinese quince look marvelous when it full autumn colour. here is a picture i found of google as an example. unfortunately i couldnt find and pics of chinese quince as bonsai in full autmun colour

I have only some colour stating to appear on my Pin Oak now. Nothing else yet even looking like turning though I am quite sheltered here by tall trees
