Phoenix grafting/trunk fusing question

Post by kcb_1983 »

G'day,
I've got a mass of maples in the fridge at the moment japanese mainly and I'm waiting for some tridents to arrive at the moment. I'd like to know if its possible to fuse Japanese maples or is it a trident only deal. The whole concept of trunk fusing is new to me and I'm quite interested. I've started to train some figs by growing the against a piece of aluminium angle to make them fit together better. If they can grow square watermellons and heart shaped strawberries its worth a shot.

regards,

Keith.

hi keith :D

i cant see why japanese maple cant be used to create a fused trunk. i have seen a fair few things fuse up really well and as you said ficus are good for it.

the only thing i would be cautious of is that japanese maple are a little more delicate and generally the look of japanese maples are slender and elegant :D

Hi Kieth , i have a Japanese Maple Sumo in the oven , basically the same as the fused tridents i recently done except i run the trunks vertically up the stump . I used 60 Whips in the process and bound with grafting tape .It wont be delicate or feminine that's for sure .Cheers Alpineart

Thanks Guys,
I signed in to see what was going on this morning to find my question answered. I'm keen to give this a shot its not going to produce the most delicate Maple ever grown but with time I think the tree will turn out fantastic.

Thanks again,

Keith
