I collected this Casuarina on a dog walk last week. It had fallen over and was lying flat on the ground, hence the shoots going at right angles to the trunk. It came out of the ground with little trouble, all the major roots had broken when it fell, but had a nice set of feeder roots that had formed since so am fairly confident it will survive.
Greth, you mentioned being ready to remove a layer from your Cas... could you please share your methods & timing etc as I am thinking this has such nice bark that i dont want to just waste the top half when the time comes.
If anyone else has had experience with layering Casuarina I would be interested to hear your experiences, methods etc as well.

This is my first attempt, so I don't feel like an expert, lol, however thrilled that it is working.
My setup is in the Black Sheoak thread in Australian Natives.

Antonio still has me under his virtual wing on this one, probably a better person to ask.
I dont think I will worry about seasons too much with these, as soon as this side is done I will set up on the other side, finishing with a nice bonsai hopeful and two paddock trees, maybe bonsai if they look nice. They grow pretty much all year round anyway, especially with summer water.

If you are not killing plants, then you are not extending yourself as a gardener..
