This is another fig collected on the same dig in Jan 09 as a few others I have posted. I dropped in to see Penny (Mudlark Pottery) on the weekend, who was in the middle of firing yet another batch of pots. I was given this pot because it was a "second" tho I fail to see how or why.. not that I am complaining. It just had to have a tree in it and thought it would be a suitable home for this fig. Its potted into attapulgite & soil 90-10 mix & a bit of DL. It will live in my bathroom window until spring. The pot is 7cm tall including feet and the fig is 20cm wide.

How's the ficus doing? Any update shots?
You know, this is the first time I have seen a ficus styled as a cascade on site.
It seems now an obvious choice, but be buggered I can't remember seeing it before, surely...

Re: Ficus meets Mudlark
Thanks Mitchell, fig is holding well. No new growth but I hadnt really expected any. This tree is as it came off the side of a hill and unlike the others I collected at the time I decided to keep the sweeping semi lines.
I have a larger one in the front garden at the mo that will also be styled as a semi cascade. I have regrown the top half twice and never been happy with it. During a recent chat with this fig(yes, I talk to my trees), it told me it would like to be a nice single pad just hanging out in the ether, so as soon as it starts to warm up I will be taking the rest off for cuttings, digging and potting into something suitable. Think I will have to talk to Penny again for a pot
.
As for cascade figs... its true you dont see many. I am also working on a twin trunk with one in cascade. The material screamed thats what it wanted so I try and listen especially when its as loud as that one was(yes the trees talk back). Once its repotted I will be able to bring the cascade down more & will also have to do major work now that i am having to remove the stone to fit it in the new pot. Just means actually bringing it up to scratch instead of cheating

Re: Ficus meets Mudlark
You're right there Matt. I don't think Penny would give that away. There must be someone here who may come close to a good guess for the recipe. Bretts, Kitoi, ...some1...???

Re: Ficus meets Mudlark
It doesn't hurt to ask.
Even though you haven't asked me, It's a rutile blue splashed over a copper red obviously fired in reduction to cone 9.
Matt was in the right place at the right time. I was unpacking the kiln and the glaze had bubbled on this one -a really bad fault so I handed it straight to him.
Penny.
