Bonsai books.

Post by Craig.a.c »

Just wondering what books people here have on Bonsai, and some good ones to recommend?

At the moment I have - Bonsai Basics (Colin Lewis)
The Handbook of Bonsai (Craig Cousins)
The Bonsai School (Craig Cousins, similar to the book above just goes into more detail)
The Complete Book of Bonsai (Harry Tomlinson)

One thing that I have noticed is that one book may say something and another will say not do it that way. Gets a little confusing sometimes.

Cheers - Craig.

Try Bonsai Techniques 1 and 2 by John Naka - they are great for the beginner.
Cheers,

Horticulture is not an exact science like mathematics Craig and there are so many variables causing one thing to work for one person and another to work for another person. Combine the information to work out what best suits you!!

But.... it is.... Each working exactly to the variables presented. You recreate the exact variables and you duplicate the results exactly.... hard part is getting material that is an exact match.. In our case we just need to attempt to recreate those variables as close as possible, we will still have differing results even if we cant see it.

If I'm not mistaken there is a mathematical equation for everything getting more and more complex as variables increase. Theoretical physics and mathematical science... interesting combo.

Hi Craig, in bonsai everyone will give you a different piece of advice we all seem to develop different techniques, but they all lead to the same end. You just need to sift through it all and see what works for you.
Leigh is right about the John Naka book its full of excellent info.
