LAND BEING CLEARED FOR SPORTSGROUND IN BLACKTOWN

Post by IS2SXC »

i just watched 10 news and there was something on a bushland being cleared for a sportsground and i saw them throw so many old casaurinas with root ball into a mulcher :(

the residents are complaining and the work has stopped till friday.

has anyone heard or seen this. 1/4 of old trees have already been cleared away

i was wondering if anyone wants to go down on friday and ask for the casaurinas they dig up with me

cheers .minh

Now's your chance minh , it does happen if you keep your eyes and ears fuctioning .I collected a tripple trunk Desert Ash and 2 English Oak stumps on the weekend .The 12 Tonne excavator lifted them out of the ground just for me . Explain to the workers you do Bonsai and would like the oppartunity to save some of the trees.Good luck Alpineart

Hmmm....

"Blacktown Council workers cleared, felled and mulched a raft of small trees and shrubs bordering endangered Cumberland Plain Woodland"

So what was dug up was mulched and the rest is protected? Not sure how we would go, unless they actually didn't mulch some of that raft, there isn't anything to collect. Perhaps if they started on the woodland there would be....

Any idea the street name, can't find glenwood reserve in Google maps. I'm home all day, so was thinking of coming too, need to be back in beecroft by 5pm though, so I might go about 1-2pm.
Regards, Mitchell.

I made it over this afternoon as it got dark and had a wander around
the area being cleared is to the North of the current football fields, and they have flattened a stirp about 200M long by 25M wide

Contained Mainly Casurina, Euc and a few Paperbark ( mels of some description ?).
All the stumps have been cut off about 12 - 24 inches above the roots and then the stump pulled out. teh Trunks and foliage have all been mulched.
The area is surrounded by a construction fence( but I did not see any signs to keep out :-)), so I found a gap and went for a good look.

Most stuff is about 8" - 24 " diameter with the Casa's about 6 - 12" or so. Many had had the soil ripped off and roots broken but a few have the soil mass intact. I you could get a car close some big ones might be collectable but you would need a few blokes and a ute or trailer.

I had a quick look and found 4 to bring home :D
2 Paperbarks and 2 Casaurinas
They all had fine roots on them ( the big Mel, has a full root mass with soil still there too :-)),

I will add some more photos tomorrow or Sunday when i can take them in the light and pot them up, but in the meantime I have trimmed the broken off roots and sat them in a barrow full of Seasol.

If anyone want to sw3ing past tomorrow, no doubt you would be able to find something useful, but if the workers or council on site they may not like you in the fenceline tho
