Re: AusBonsai Australian Native Bonsai Awards 2010 Result Announ
Hi All
What a marvellous competition this has been! The quality of trees, their diversity in species and styling were outstanding. For those on my shortlists, there were too many of you. It was difficult to find the finest details on which to move one up one point and another down so that I could fit within the strict but necessary boundaries Steven set.
Everyone who sent in a tree should feel happy to have been a part of this first competion. The great news is that Steven is considering running it again next year. Thanks Steven for this most worthwhile initiative. With the high standard set, we should really see some hard work at producing even better trees for next year. Even with this good start, there is room for improvement and for more artistic flair to start coming through in the trees you grow.
Cheers
Roger

Thank you for all the efforts of people involved .........BUT...... The standard of SOME of the winners tree's uuuummmmmmmmm.......... I am finding it hard to comprehend how they were judged?????? Was it on actual BONSAI styling merit, did you just pick the winners out of a hat or was the prize's allocated for mates????
I am very disappointed and embarrassed at the standard of SOME of the winning tree's......

Congratulations to the winners. Well deserved.
I was disappointed that there weren’t any Eucs entered being the most iconic Australian tree. Maybe some time in the future.Oh um back to the drawing board.

Woah! Talk about sour grapes! If you have a legitimate question regards judging, why not ask it instead of just coming across like a knob end?
"I am very disappointed and embarrassed at the standard of SOME of the winning tree's."
I am disappointed and embarrassed, you decided to slur this comp like that.

Regards, Mitchell.

Mitchell By look of your avatar you must be in the same category as some of the winners, everyone has a right to there own opinion.

My congratulations and thanks too to the winners, entrants, organisers et al.
It's been a great experience for me and has definitely steered my bonsai focus and main interest towards natives.
Cheers folks.

Next year Peter, I promise! BTW, I really love your Peppermint, but I'm sure you already know that...PeterH wrote:I was disappointed that there weren’t any Eucs entered being the most iconic Australian tree. Maybe some time in the future.Oh um back to the drawing board.

Great work Steven, Grant and Kunzea (but most especially Mr Steven for hosting AusBonsai.com and organising such a ground-breaking contest)!!! Sorry that I had nothing to offer this year, but my life got in the way.
A big 'Goodonya' to all participants, whether you won or otherwise! Without your participation, a contest like this (or a site like this) means nothing.
Thanks all!
Fly.
PS: I don't like flexing my Mod muscle very often, but I would prefer that this thread not degenerate into a mud slinging contest. If you do not like the results, enter the contest next year and do better than the competition. If you do not like comments about the results, enter the contest next year and do better than the competition. I hope everybody understands.

Just a note on quality,
The quality of this comp is excellent. And for Bonsaist embracing the essences of Bonsai and experimenting with the new and undocumented species and varieties, there horticulture and design, in many difficult environments within this country is the future of Australian Bonsai.
I find it sad that some people in Bonsai can not see beyond the traditional but those people will never be great artists. IMHO

Awesome relults everyone
Congratulations to all the awardees, and an even bigger one to everyon who submitted and entry whether it placed or not. You are all winners for putting yourself "out there".
Doing this will make you strive to improve your own trees immensely
Thanks you to Steven for making it happen
