Hi all,
It has been a buisy day at the collection today being Austalia Day. We were just serenaded by Dorothy the Dinosaur in concert on the nearby Stage 88.
About 250 vivitors so far today.

Took me a while to work that one out Grant. I thought you meant Ostrya, Hop hornbeam

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Hi Brett and congratulations,Bretts wrote:Took me a while to work that one out Grant. I thought you meant Ostrya, Hop hornbeam
No point being cryptic if I make it easy.
I have been known to talk in Strine and that is how I imagine they would spell Australia Day.
Anyhow happy? Ostraya Die!
It was a quieter afternoon at the collection than the very hectic morning but finished with close to 300 for the day.
Luckily It wasn't too hot for the volunteers and visitors.

I recall that when I first moved to these fair shores, my folks were given a book titled: "Let Stalk Strine". As such, I immediately recognised Mr NBPCA's title for what it was - not bad for a former Seppo, eh? (I've even found a transcript on the Interwebs, although it does not have the cheesy 70s cartoons attached.)
Glad to hear things are going well at the NBPCA, Mr Bowie!
Happy Oz Day all!

33 years ago i landed in California and was hosted by a family that was used to having Australians stay. When they picked me up at the airport they smiled and nodded their heads alot but hadn't understood a word I said. They said I would have to slow down my speech and speak American if I was going to be understood.
Days later I was going into to San Francisco. They asked what I was doing and I thought I said " I am going into town today"
They heard "I was going into town to die". They politely asked if I was sick? I said "no I was fine".
It took a while to sort that one out!
