I just got given a Japanese maple bonsai for my first wedding anniversary... not that I have ever had success and very little experience otherwise with any bonsai in the past mind you! (I do grow aquatic plants in tanks inside with great success...) Looks like I need to keep it alive though.
I think it's an "acer palmatum atropurpureum" but I'm not really too sure.

Hey Bodhi, (and anyone else that might be able to help)

I have a mikawa yatsubusa as well, but its not doing so well. We got hit with a dust storm just as the new shoots were coming out and it suffered badly, now it looks like its struggling with phytophora. I've dosed it with fongarid. I was wondering if you (or anyone else) had any other tips for care. The dust storm only bothered the maples just shooting, lost several during this time.
