Home made bonsai tools

Post by Petra »

Hi all,
This topic is for sharing the idea and use of your homemade handy tools for easier solutions to the techniques used in bonsai.
Im interested in what home made tools or other implements others have made, and how they use them. There has been tools shown in other posts for bending and such, could you show how they were made and demonstrate how they are used, here. Thanks for any help!

i would be lost without my scribe. i use it when wiring pines and others, to push foliage out of the way. i now also use it for all my root teasing out and combing through. for those who dont know what a scribe is?

Bending Jacks, root hook and a root sickle for cutting the roots, when re potting very helpful with pots that have inverted tops.

I have these in 3 sizes for large trees down to Mame. Oh! and a rake made from a bent fork.

A mate has soil scoops made from plastic drink containers. I also use a plasterers small tool for scraping moss off and for tamping down the soil.Wooden wedges for tilting the angle of the pot.

Thought I had better show them.

6mm bar will break a broom handle, you just need to be that strong your self, they are designed on a Japanese one I saw in an early magazine.

Cheers ;) Pup,
In one of the Bonsai europe mags there is an intersting design by a Frenchman on a tilting turntable,
Thought about it copied the pictures as well just never bothered.

 okk half inch mught be a bit of an overkill, i have just found quarter inch to be a bit bendy, but i guess that comes from working with heavy steel too, i didnt think much about the fact we are trying to bend bonsai not full sized trees

half inch it is :D i will be knocking one up myself this week some time :D
