thanks steve i havent had a problem with the sphagnum drying out so far the top has now been opened some more too, just a case of being vigilant and checking regulary and making sure its moist

the plan for now is survival! this is the piece that was layered

mate it looks like its going strong, maybe a raft style...

you never know? but grant bowie taugtht us a trick with squamata's earlier in the year. where if you bury a section of tree you cut off, in a seedling tray and leave some foliage poking out, it grows roots up and down the section. which is perfect for raft or you divide it up. i did it 2 back in autumn and they are now pushing growth. just not sure where the roots are yet. i will repot those next authumn. so if you want a raft or lots of intesting section's, you dont need to layer sqamata's.
