My grandma recently remembered that she had this pot half-buried in the garden. She acquired it in the early 2000s, but my guess is that it’s much older than that.
About 39 x 25 x 6cm. Glazed slightly differently on the long sides. Slightly wobbly and the line underneath seems hand marked, so my guess is that it was handmade?
Any thoughts on the age or origin of this strange pot?
Rub a pencil on some paper over the potters mark and/or use chalk straight on the pot and/or take a photo with the light source pointing across it and the folk here will have a better chance of a positive ID on the maker. Also drainage might be poor but I find as soon as you use wire to tie in your drainage screen or the tree the drainage is fine. A cool and weird pot for sure, thanks for sharing.
It's a very long shot, but the clay and some visible parts of the stamp look similar to Suishoen Hekisui. Do not take that as a positive ID though
So quick update: I found another one on eBay a while back and it said it was of Tokoname origin (that’s nice to know!) The one in the listing did not have holes.
