That big olive is a nice score! If you have a hatchet or something similar you can chop away at the bottom of the lignotuber to reduce the size and get it a bit more flat on the bottom - this will make it easier to get into a shallow bonsai pot when the time comes, and will also ensure surface roots grow around the base of the tree where you want them rather than out the bottom of the tuber.

Thanks Greg. It was the first olive I saw. So many olives not enough space. At the moment, I worked out that using the chainsaw tip to cut the big side roots work.

Yep, I have a fairly small back yard so need to constantly sell off bits and pieces as I go out and dig more. I often wish I had a larger yard but I'd hate to think how many stumps I'd need to maintain if I had that much space :palm:

You're doing well with all the digs, congrats! Just a little FYI if you're cutting down those blue containers, Steve from Aussie Bonsai Grower uses them too, but he always cuts a handle on each side....thought you may be interested.
