I've just started my first project taking raw nursery stock and developing it into a bonsai. It's rewarding seeing your vision take shape from raw stock rather than taking over a styled tree, and I thought I'd start a thread here to keep a record of it and join in more with this community

I'd been cruising around the nurseries, and a group of gold deodars caught my eye. The nursery had several different cultivars. This particular one had lost its label and was re-tagged just as "Gold cedrus deodar". Some of the others were Cream Puff and Vinks Gold.
This is the one I selected:
The foliage attracted me: nearly white when young, darkening through the season
I contempmated the tree on and off for a few weeks - which branches to use, it's best angle
Initial trim and wire today
I'll have to do a bit more to the top. I was unsure whether to work with what was there, or leave it for now until after spring and see what new growth I get.
