Hibiscus tiliaceus

This is what we here in Qld call a Cotton tree, coastal hibiscus, or Hibiscus tiliaceus.

I was gobsmacked when I saw the progression images, and thought they were worth sharing. Five years ago to now...

Stunner. I have one of these growing in my back yard - doesn't quite look like this though. They're quite popular here in Adelaide, both as a large tree and as a hedge.

I've got one I dug up a couple of years ago, after 6 years in the garden. These photos have given me hope.

I've managed to go from a stump to a stump with some branches....lol

Well that worked a treat. Can some please explain the layered pots. Excuse my ignorance.

Apparently the layered pots means it can keep growing into the lower pots for a couple of years before being removed from the top one in a severe root pruning episode...These trees seem to bounce back pretty quickly from even a very hard root prune...

The layers means you *hopefully* won't have a deep tap root left growing into the ground, I guess. Oh, and it would be much easier to wire the tree!

I just noticed that the thick trunks and branches have also been wedged to produce movement... this tree really has had it all!

You can see the scars from the wedging when you know they're there...
