The leaf shape looks maybe correct and the smooth bark fits

I always found defoliation of Liquidamber after December to be hit and miss. They would come back but only patchyly whereas if the were done by about mid December they came back strongly.

I assume results would vary a little depending on what part of Australia you were in too with something like that?Grant Bowie wrote:I always found defoliation of Liquidamber after December to be hit and miss. Re: Who can tell what bonsai this is?
During an online workshop with Matthew Ouwinga the trident king. I was suprised to hear that he does not believe defoliation any use with the trident. He said in all his time in Japan he did not see one trident defoliated at the nursery he worked at or any other.
He stated that defoliation had no basis for improving autumn colour as well.
This was advice only for the maples(maybe only trident ? unsure) The fig was stated as not being in his catagorie but unsure about other deciduous now?

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

I don't defoliate Trident Maple but do defoliate Japanese Maple, Ash, Parrotia, Liquidamber and Figs.Bretts wrote:During an online workshop with Matthew Ouwinga the trident king. Have defoliated Crab Apple floribunda but to no advantage for leaf size.
