Where to collect figs

Post by MasonC »

Hey
Does anyone know the sort of spot I would be looking for to find some yamadori figs? I know I won't find them where I live but I go down the coast all the time and I am moving down at the end of the year. I never see any small figs growing around the bigger ones. Does anyone know where I would find the figs?
Thanx
Mase

hi mason
in my area on the mid north coast i find ficus seedlings in the most unusual spots.if you look hard enough you will find them.
well protected, moist, and humid areas.guttering on houses where there is a build up of leaf litter.
i collect alot from my local golf course germinating up in paperbark trees.
any areas where fig birds will deposit the seeds.ive seen seedlings growing under stairs and out of cracks in brickwork.
look up in old date palms there is always big knarly strangler figs trying to anchor their roots.
hope that is of help.

thanx mate. I have seen one growing up between two bricks in a house wall once! It pushed the bricks apart and they had to fix it.
