The green metal tube is Kiyonal and it is the one I use the most.

The other green tube says Callusmate. I used it many years ago but don't use it now.

You can use Kiyonal on most things but it is not necessary on conifers and definitely do not use on very smooth bark trees like Acer palmatum, Birch and beech to a lesser extent. Use the Putty in the round tub where you can't use the Kiyonal.

On trident maples and some others you can double seal. Wait for sap to stop flowing then use Kiyonal and then about 2 days later put on the putty over the top. The wounds on Tridents; even very big or many years old and unhealed; will heal over very quickly. Sometimes within a year the would is completely covered. Sometimes it over callouses so use you judgement on how flat or deeply you make the original cut.

Cheers,

Grant

I use it: it seems to be closer to thick PVA glue than silicon. Definitely can be hard to get off

As in just normal wood putty from the hardware shop?

More like as in the stuff they are talking about in this thread...

I first tried that and decided I prefer the tube as the OP showed.
Much nicer finish on the tree IMHO

Ditto... never really bothered with the putty, just Kiyonal but Grant's post has me thinking it might be worth a shot - the stuff about tridents is particularly interesting. Food for thought!
