A bit of fun and reaching out to those in the know , I recently acquired some pots with this chop on them, from the information I can put together these are handmade, possibly custom ordered? Maybe 1990s? At least two use a porcelain or fine white clay?

I maybe able to get more info in the future, but I thought I'd put it out to the wealth of Ausbonsai knowledge and (Japanese?) pot aficionados

I've recently acquired some pots and have undertaken to id the chops/signatures as well. While I can't id this chop, they are the same chop, one with raised characters and one with recessed characters. There are four characters in the circle. Chops are changed regularly so concentrate on just one or two characters. Like English there are a dozens of different fonts used in Chinese and Japanese. The website recommended is a good one but if this chop is in there it may not look exactly like yours, it may have slight variations. The lines may be thicker or thinner etc.

It took me four goes at the 600 chops to id one of mine! It was a rainy day....

So it's Max Baxter then. Seems the chop is upside down. I asked Ryan Bell from Japanesebonsaipots.net, and he says the characters are Chinese and upside down. He could not identify the potter or kiln which makes sense. Lol. Reminds me of the search I had for an antique Chinese pot only to find it was locally made in Cape Town by a guy who used Eastern kanji on his chop. Lol

Thanks for going to the trouble of asking Ryan Bell, much appreciated I also asked a Chinese colleague at work and she couldn't make sense of it either, she'll be amused

Does lead me to ask ... who was Max Baxter was he associated with Waverley or another club
