Hey guys,
I have had trouble contacting the manufacturer and wondered if anyone knows why it is not recommended to apply earl's wood hardener to wood previously treated with lime sulphur? I have two trees with deteriorating deadwood that I have used lime sulphur on a number of times over the years and would like to treat the rotting areas rather than remove them.
I have also considered applying a well thinned down coat of epoxy to the rotting and vulnerable areas and then brushing off any shine left behind. What are people's thoughts on this? Ever been done before? I don't think I would dare do this in an area where the solution might soak into some live wood or even down to the substrate.
Any help with this is appreciated guys. Thank in advance.
Cheers,
Ces.

Re: Earl's wood hardener and lime sulphur
Maybe because Earls will make the timber impervious to moisture and not allow the Lime sulpher to soak in and bleach it?
I have never tied anything else so not sure

Re: Earl's wood hardener and lime sulphur
I have used lime sulphur, then earls, I have killed trees many other ways
but this hasn't hurt them.
Recent Boug Cascade post is just one example, it's been treated twice
you could try a "test case" tree first if your unsure, my approach is more "bull at a gate"
Good luck

Re: Earl's wood hardener and lime sulphur
I've done it without harm. I went from lime Sulfur to earls and back. I noticed the main thing was the dead wood went almost high gloss. And anything that goes over the top of earls doesn't sink in. The gloss has faded over time but is still way more than straight like Sulfur.
