Its too early, wait for the growth to extend and needles to open. In Sydney we decandle in early Jan, earlier in colder climates, later in warmer.

It depends on how long it will take to get a mature second flush of growth but in Brisbane you should be able to wait longer than me.

If.you decandle now you will just get a second "first flush" and stress your tree for no reason

Ps. Why do you want to decandle these trees? You need to know why you are doing it

To me they look too early in their development, you want branches before you want ramification

I agree with Kez. These pines are way too spindly to be decandling. Unless you want a small Shohin tree these need to grow. You can allow black pines to grow for up to 2 years then cut back hard so there is only the old needles lowest on all branches. They will bud at the needles and then you allow another 2 years growth to thicken again.
Only start decandling when you have developed your trunk size and the start of branches.

The first pine is quite yellow. It really needs feeding and possibly repotting.

even if you want a small tree, you need to develop the trunk first. If a smaller tree is the plan then you will need low branches and shoots low down to work with in the future

Thank you for all the comments. Will leave it for another year. The first tree is the strongest of those 4 pines. I notice those needles are on the yellowish side but i cant figure it out why. Done with repotting over the winter period.

What's your fertilising regime like? Lack of food sometimes makes the needles look lighter and feel limper.

I feed it monthly over the winter period but fortnightly during growning season.

You are correct about L.A and marking.
It is a very straight tree.
Will chop off and start again [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND TIGHTLY-CLOSED EYES]
