Hi
I've pretty much read every post in this forum and gathered that the optimal time is in Spring.
Call me long winded but I'd just like to be sure as I am planning to repot one of my Juni that is fairly important to me.
Is early spring the optimal theoretical time to report Junis? (when the plant shows signs of growth).
Thanks,
Dennis

Probably get a kicking but I don't give 'a' when I re-pot anything.
But with a tree you strongly enjoy I think the ideas gleaned from the 'big' guys here is your passage to keeping that tree in great shape.
Eg; Azaleas I re-pot about 3 times a year or when I see a bit of stress or a couple of drier leaves.
Squatts I do as often as I want a different pot and that is often.
Peppercorn I won't touch as the larger roots bark damages so easily and goes black. The forest I have is not wired in so in can 'slip pot it out for a soil change. (won't even change it's pot dimensions as it's lived in the same pot for years and just gets new soil around the edges .. A little one I have is vigorous and gets a root prune around the edges of the pot and that's all )
Quince as I see roots sneaking out the drain..Actually did a pot change on a Red one today.
Steve.

The best time (for Melbourne) is either just as you see the start of new growth on the tips of the branches (now) or at the end of the season when growth has slowed down but the weather is still mild (mid to late March)

Re: What is the best time to repot juniper?
Thanks Steve.
I am more of less the same as you and repot when ever I want to. This is why I don't actually remember anything.
Just that this one is important and I want to make sure I take no risk.
I am happy to hear you treat your peppercorn special. I have one in the ground and about 2 weeks ago, I dug around the tree and hacked all the big roots (about 4 of them up to about 2cm dia).
The tree has shown no sign of stress so I have either missed some even bigger ones or there are enough little roots to support the tree.
Does anyone else have any input before I go repotting this little juni that is around 15 yrs old but still a twig in a pot?
(Its special not because it is big, but because it is one of the first plant I tried to bonsai at a time when I know nothing about bonsai. Probably still don't but I read a lot now)
