Re: ANOTHER QUICKY
This was a ripper from Johns today it took a mere 10 minutes to dig .I first expected a massive root ball digging around 750mm , 2 roots were found .Dug back to 500mm 4 root were found , closer to thr stump 400mm and i discovered a massive 400 x 350 feeder root mass .Inearly done cartwheels around the paddock .I excavated down 400mm and under the tree i was to find the tap root .I used a pruning saw to severe it and out of the whole it come .
On closer inspection the roots were only 200mm fiberous feeders and full of Mychrozea so i trimmed it there and then .Ripped the shirt of my back and wrapped the roots and bolted leaving John puzzled .I did call him to explain . I trimmed the roots to 120mm and placed the trunk into a 400x 300 x100mm training pot ,the foliage has not been trimmed apart from pinching the candles . The reason the candles look like they are drooping is the canopy was seeking light growing under 4 other pines .The base of the trunk at ground level is 120 x100mm . THE ROOTS I FOUND IN THE FIRST 2 DIGS WERE FROM THE OTHER TREES .

Hi Bretts John did some eradication 3-4 years ago .Thats why he asked for my help today it didn't work on most of the trees he cut .He left a shoot without knowing and as most people Don't realize you cant kill a pine unless you cut below the shoots . That's how i get the chop tops ,contractors to slack to get down and see if the cut below the shoot , Or amatuers thinking they know what their doing and just cut them off leaving a shoot or small branch .Some of the chop tops i have the union is like a graft it has grown and healed with fantastic alignment others are very crook.
I have seen many a pine tree 1000's of them cut at ground level and sprout because a shoot was left on or just below ground level .Don't believe everything you read or hear because a lot of people don't know unless they have tried and tested it and i "do".You kill more pine trees trying to dig them out with no fibreous roots than cutting the tops off , unless you cut below the bottom shoot . By the way have you drowned that hawthorn yet ?.Cheers

Re: ANOTHER QUICKY
You cant stop the rot once it starts its a goner .No Feeders the needles can't do that job , yellow needles cant make Feeders .All that hard work does Piss me off too thats the way i learnt but every now and again i still try to beat "Mother Nature" .I have collected a couple pushed out by Dozers , laying out in the open for a few days and pot ,bugger me the survive , but they have the feeders.Cheersanttal63 wrote:the yellow has started alpbut it aint over till its over
