G'day,

Here is my 2nd entry, a Port Jackson Fig that has been in my garden for a couple of years. So far the only work done has been repotting and a trunk chop. This tree featured in the How to grow dynamic figs quickly thread. The top half was used to split and grow new roots and this bottom half has just been sitting there waiting for something to happen...

do you plan on an angle change to get the new leader a little more upright? I know this could easily be fixed with wire, the reason why I ask is that the nebari looks pretty solid and set in its place.

good luck for the comp though, its good you can enter in it, look forward to seeing the development. remember, figs love chicken poo

Is that plastic pot a specialist orchid one?

I've just been to the local orchid nursery in town and it looks similar.... Anyone else use these shallower pots??

G'day Stew,

Yes, it is an orchid pot or 'squat pot'. They are available in lots of sizes and you can get them in any colour you like (as long as you like black).

Gave this a bit of a trim this morning and shortly I'll wrap a bit of wire loosely around the remaining branches and bend for a bit of movement.
I'll then leave it for a while to hopefully get a bit of girth on the remaining branches before I cut them back hard.

Not a lot has happened with this guy except that the violet has gone feral. Think I'd better remove it
I'll get some wire onto it soon and chop the new leader when it has thickened some more.

The branch with foliage has been left to thicken up a bit. I'll let it shoot and will then select branches to keep. I'll start tip pruning almost immediately to try and build a short, squat, rugged looking tree.

Progress on this one has been slow (to put it politely). Probably because it has been neglected and become overgrown with the violet.
