defoliated my little Chinaman

Post by Firecat »

Thought I'd have a go at defoliation of my Chinese Elm.
Started from an air lay from seedling grown ulmus parvifolia that went all leggy about a 2 years ago and the stock just dried up and died when I took this little menace off.

In all 422 leaves removed and most branches cut back 3 buds.
What a job as the tiny leaf stems had my eyes crossing and running in tears but
I persisted once started and never cut too deep and lost zero buds.

Result is I'd say is 100% back budding in 6 days.
Regards Steve

Onya for gaining the experience of defoliating but the tree is a little immature for that sort of work. Probably better to wait until it has a little more ramification.

My China man has budded out now with a few more branches adding to ramification.
Small it is but I'm pleased with it's progress.
I want to see if I can along the way just clip with no wiring.
