Hi,
It is a morning glory, the morning glory family is Concolvulaceae and all Convolvulaceae have this radially symetrical fused tube flower with flaring petal lobes with that thickened mid ray- have a look- can you see the thickened triangle in the middle of each petal?
cheers

Was it growing as a vine? because Morning Glory usually grows as a vine that covers sheds etc.
Great trunk, regardless what it is it should make a great bonsai.

kvan64 wrote:By some internet search, the flower and shape match quite close. I think it could well be a morning glory tree. Just wondering how long it took that fine vine to get that thick. Even if it may not be good for bonsai, I'll keep it as a garden plant. Thank you for inputs.

i think the trunk line just screams "BONSAI ME!!!!"

work around the trunk and develop it from there... :D
SHOHIN YAKUZA!!!
