Flower Specific Feeding

Post by Robsterios »

G'day...just wondering if many use flowering specific fertilizer such as Powerfeed Fruit & Flower for their flowering tree's such as Hawthorn, Quince, Crab Apple etc... Also recently purchased a ripper old Jacaranda which is said to flower every year but have yet to see this....I've read the forums stating this is not likely so will wait and see and probably bit late to set up a feeding regime for this one. The other question is around the 0:10:10...Is this recommended for just flowering or all Bonsai for a late Summer into Autumn feed....?
thanks for any advice...Rob...

Yeah that sounds good. I've used the tomato fert as well with some good results. In the end I think plants are like humans in that I'd get sick of eating the same meal every day, so find a few ferts to use and keep mixing it up.

I use Thrive fruit n flower as my liquid feed with tomato feed. Also for the Wisteria I spinkle the tomato food dry on top of pots.
You state it may be too late? I dont start this feeding for flowers until late January on wards. I have never had my Bonsai Jacaranda flower. It is seed grown that is probably why it doesn't flower. I do have other Jacaranda not Bonsai in larger pots not seed grown over 2.5 mtrs and they flower every year.
Cheers

Hi Robsterios...Below is the Product that I use. I have had excellent results with this product on all of my flowering Bonsai.

Here is the product sold at Hargraves Nursery (Google search page) ...It's top of the list

Try to search around for a better price...I have picked it up previously from other nurseries for $12.00-$15.00.

Check out this post by RayM on Air layering Wisteria...Make sure you check out both pages to see layered Wisteria in full flower...Maybe send him a PM...He may have a few tricks up his sleeve to help you with your Jacaranda...

Hope this helps...Good Luck

I use flower fertiliser for all flowering bonsai. definitely improves the number of flowers and possibly the quality as well.
As Kirky says, flowers are initiated late summer so I switch to flowering fert mid - late summer for flowering species.

In Aust there is no need to change fert for winter hardiness. It just does not get cold enough (except maybe Sno's place) for this to make any difference. Feed evergreen plants year round and deciduous trees whenever they have leaves on.
