What style is this tree

Hi All, was just wanting some opinions on this collected hawthorn. I collected it 2 years ago as i really liked the shari on the trunk, but it only gave shoots at the top and the the leader of the tree died back which i intend to carve. would this tree fit into the literati camp or the informal upright

I think informal upright. From experience, Hawthorn will shoot back in more places soon.

That would depend on how many branches and how much foliage you plan to keep and develop- the shari gives the impression of some taper-I would tend to go minimalist (literati)and could look very nice in flower whether white or red,with that upper dead wood

Either Style could work ans TG said depending on the amount of branching and fooliage left

Hi watto, as you can see there is only a small live vein and i've had a few shoots grow lower down and then die, and i had a sucker grow from the bottom quite strongly but then i noticed that the foliage on the weaker side of the trunk at the top start to die back so i cut it off.

Hi tg, as i said to watto i think i'll just grow the foliage at the top , but i'm finding it quite tricky to get ramification as sometimes when i cut back it wants to die back

Hi ken , thanks i do like the trunk it has a lot of character , i must say though it's making me tear my hair out

but i've been told hawthorns can be tricky if someone can tell me a good way to get ramification i'd be very pleased

thought i'd show a bit more of the trunk

the pot looks large enough -but have you considered putting it back in the ground for a season or two to let the roots re invigorate (perhaps bury the whole pot as is)

Hi .TG , I've found here in adelaide planting in the ground doesn't seem to work so well, don't know why , maybe the climate here. I've spoken to several people that have found the same thing so i tend to grow in larger containers
