Not sure what it is...But I had a similar problem with mine...Although not so severe. Alternated between Pyrethrum & Confidor for a few weeks & it seems to have worked. No Harm in trying. Good Luck

i can also confirm caterpillars. "destroyed" mine last season, not a single leaf untouched.
Acer buergerianum, Acer palmatum, Bougainvillea (something), Ficus microcarpa, Lagerstroemia indica 'Fauriei', Melaleuca styphelioides, Olea Europa, Prunus (something) 'Dwarf Apricot', Quercus robur, Ulmus parvifolia, Zelkova serrata

that first photo reminds me of the damage I get on my hawthorns from slug worms , spray with confidor

Photos a bit hard to see but looks like Elm leaf beetle damage. Same treatment as for caterpillar - confidor or other pesticide.
Note that you have found a caterpillar? There are likely to be more so keep an eye out over the rest of summer.
