Swampy

Post by xIIRevoEvoS »

So I've been growing a starter Swamp Cypress for about a month or two, is it a bad practice to have it in a bucket of water with the pot??
or
Is it better to water the plant like every other tree instead?
Kind Regards

Swampies can benefit from being in a tray of water - you can also sit it on a tray of gravel that you keep wet. This lets the roots go through the pot and run into the gravel which encourages growth. The gravel is good to keep mossies out.

You can water swampies like other plants and they will grow just as well but they have evolved to grow in swamps so they are also happy to have the roots permanently wet and can grow happily with the pot sitting in water. Either will do with a swampie.

I notice that with in 3 days, the bucket of water has gone instantly. They are 1 thirsty plant.
Will definitely use gravel or pebbles on the tray
Kind Regards

You can get a nice fat trunk growing them in water during the growing season, but I always took them out of the tray for winter.

I am talking about when I lived in Sydney and Sthn Highlands. I felt it matched their natural conditions of wet most of the time but sometimes dry, no advantage in growing in water over winter. Also less staining on the pot.
