Eucalyptus pauciflora seedlings

Hi all
I have germinated 6 tassie snow gums with a plan to bonsai a few. I am completely new to bonsai btw. Also got a few maples as well.

Anyhow, my snowgums are about an inch high with 2 sets of leaves. Should I trim the tap root now or let them go for a bit?

Eucs can be treated just the same at seedling stage.

I once read somewhere that pauciflora is one of the few eucalypts that transplant easily due to their fibrous root system which grows close to the trunk. Id love to get some in training for bonsai.

I'm trying to find some more info on growing techniques for these trees. I have a couple of very small collected pauciflora from a mates farm (trunks are about 1cm width from a decent base ball and 2 feet of top growth), and wanted some help with advice on getting them to back bud on the trunk line, or if grafting will be the only way. I am assuming when it comes time that trunk chops can only be down to the lowest branch.

Hi Greenthumb . If you cut the end tips off it should back bud easily . This is one I have grown from seed . It's about 6 years old . I cut it back 4 weeks ago and it's shooting everywhere now . This one was nearly 4 feet when I cut . Other ones I have I have just taken the tips out and they usually shoot from the last leaf point . When I have trunk chopped i do leave the lowest branch untill it shoots on the trunk then I chase it down .

Thanks for this, most appreciated. Chasing it down makes a load of sense, I'll grow these guys on until I get the trunk about where I want them and work my way down.
