Thought I would show this field maple that I have grown from seed, and now it is full of seed itself. Not sure how old it is but it is now about 60cm high by about 60cm wide. Needs some work but it is interesting to see how many seed pods it has produced.
I am not sure if I want the small first branch on the right but I will leave it for a little while until I make up my mind. Do you think it is a useful addition to the tree?

Hi Watto,
I am not an expert (yet!) on styling but I would leave as many branches on the tree as I could to encourage more leaf and twig to form. Maybe you could get ramification that way!?
Nice tree by the way. Love field maples.
Cheers,
Brad75.

Nice tree, great to see it seeding. I have one I ground layer to get rid of ugly roots. Hoping now I can concentrate on growing it now.
Yours is looking nice and healthy. I would keep the branch for now. They heal well so can be removed later if needed. Mine is only out in about half leaf so far.
Josh.

Hi Watto,
They are a bit of a bugger for back budding and reducing leaf size but worth the effort for Autumn colour. I wouldnt bother with the new branch.

Thanks for the comments. I will continue to remove the really big leaves and probably remove all the seeds soon. A complete defoliation is also on the cards in a months time.

Great tree, I think that new branch is probably too low to realistically work into the design of the tree

Nice tree

A stick in a pot is better than no stick at all. Remember even the best bonsai started as a stick.

Re: Acer Campestre - Field Maple
The new low branch will go, probably this weekend. I have decided to keep a few seed pods with the plan of growing a bonsai from bonsai seed. I think that makes sense??????
