I am off on a short break and getting some stuff done around the house and on my bonsai. I have got a fair few trees repotted that haven't been done for years as well as a few that have.

I decided to try this elm in a deeper pot and am pleased with the outcome.

Hi Grant,
I'm interested to know why you decided on the shallow pot again. The shallow pot to me makes the tree sit up higher which might only make it harder to water.
I like the tree in both pots. Nice to have a selection of pots to try.

The old new pot was too shiny for an old tree; the more muted colour suits it well.

Size and depth wise I think its OK. Despite our heat here in Canberra it does OK.

I am always on the hunt for good pots but they are hard to find in OZ. I am of to china in about 17 days time; I wonder what I may find or see there?

Wow. That would have to be one of the best trees i have seen posted here and the new pot makes it look even better. Very inspired to keep working on my elms now.

I will need to now thin it out slightly and tidy up. Reinforce the 2 x 2s and refine reticulation and taper.

Note,

I did not find a suitable pot in China; we did not get much chance for shopping generally and the only pot manufacturer we visited was mainly making unglazed pots.

I am hoping to find something in Japan next February. I believe we will have pot shopping opportunities at the Kokufu market and in the Tokoname ceramic area.

Hi Grant,
A very beautiful tree mate.

I'm a little confused. In your previous post the pot was a totally different colour. It looks very purple in the last photos. :lost:

Same pot, different background colour and more fluro lights above work/photo area, dull wet day outside.

It is definitely purplish.
