Japanese Black Pine - Ausbonsai market day 2014
I purchased the tree in 8, march 2014 at the inaugural Ausbonsai market day and will update this thread as the tree develops in time.
the seller was an older couple that had grown them from seedling in pots for the last 35 years.
Lots more they had too

Sweet!
I would be cutting it back hard now, to draw the foliage in to that fabulously contorted trunk....
Keep it small to show off those curves

After roughly 20 years of growing bonsai, I reckon I might just be starting to get the hang of it...

No suggestions from me Ken (I'm sure you know what you're doing) but awesome stock. And from the pics of the tables in the other post it looks like they had a fair few very nice trees too
look forward to seeing where you go with this one

What a great tree, Ken. Look forward to seeing this one develop. The shari and bend are very natural looking, looks like a rock hit it while tumbling down the mountainside.
It does remind me a bit of the winter Olympics though.

I also imaging that there are going to be a few more emptied in the process of working out the final tree.bamboos wrote: The bottle is empty![]()

Many an hour will be spent studying it before taking to it with trimmers

To be honest ken don't think you need to take any trimmers to it much, The structure is all there and the ramification looking well on its way. Just need to get some wire on it and use what's available to move structural branches into position and then detail wire the finer branching to complement the structural design. I like the branch selection that you have done already, spot on I'd say!
