I agree Boics, and the owner really doesn't know anything about bonsai, it was just a gift that they've tried to keep alive, so they've basically given me the go-ahead to do what I like with it. Will work on it again late winter next year.

The good old no water trick no doubt....
Doesn't take much to push the limits and undo years of good work.

Sad to see as this was clearly headed in a better direction of health and style.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful
