Whats wrong with my baby :( Shimpaku!

When I bought this little sucker he was nice and green. Had him 2 months or so, he was nice and green then he just started to change color, I thought i might be overwatering him so I backed off, now its getting to the point where the needles are almost going white and the needles will break off if you touch them. I've been misting him rather than watering. I just before took the rootball out of pot to see if it was rotting and it wasn't dry, but it wasnt soaked, it was a little moist. Any help as to what is happening?

Hi Bray , mate your shimpakuis not a shimpaku more like a Procumbins or Squamata and it's not alive by the look of it .Like pines once they get to this point it's all over red rover .

Possibly over watered when you first purchased it , its a shame but that's bonsia . You haven't learned anything until you kill a few tree's .

Don't give up just find another new one and water wisely , change the position of the bonsai from full sun to part shade so the pot doesn't over heat if this may be the case . There is a reason and its up to you to find out so you don't repeat it .

Thanks for your reply Alpine. It is highly possible that I had over watered it when I first got it, I'm so used to watering trees daily. It sucks that this is pretty much the end for this beautiful tree. No way of saving it?
It's position was full sun for probably the 2 months i've had it, as it really started to warm up i've shifted it to a spot on the verandah where the direct sun can't get it at all.

Edit: I've got 4 nice green shimpaku seedlings growing in 4'' pots at the moment, I'm not sure if I should start training them or wait till they get alot bigger and thicker on the main trunk.

Hi Bray , mate if you can place a piece of wire on the trunk then they are ready for training . Again never be in too much of a hurry , do some serious research here on Wiki or on google for information on the species you are working with .
