This was a good use for an old security door that was given to me as a bonsai bench, while i did use it for last season it had a better use . This tray was custom made for the base on the S.A Olive project .I basically cut the steel in the shape of the base then welded 3 various width 3mm flat steel lengths to create the sides . It was rendered with Acrylic Render first to seal the steel then added a cement render with a waterproofing agent added the sealed again. It has come up to expectations and will hopefully leach a little rust stain here and there to give it the finish I'm looking to achieve . Another project finally finished .

You always think outside the box Alpine!
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Great job. Was looking at the pot in your other post & wondering where/how it was made. Now I know.

Re: Old door - New Tray
Hi Guys , glad to see you like it . I need to make another for Mt Alpineart , its 200mm larger olive base and twice the weight . The next one will have a different side making it out of round steel rod and flats for a different finish . Uniquely different , limited only by your imagination and recycling is definitely the way too go . Keeps me off the streets and out of trouble , except when the Wife finds them laying around half done .
