Learning Bonsai in Japan
This is my third day atTaisho en today I had to balance the energy on some black pines by removing shoots and needles it is best to prune shoots back so there is only two but you can leave three if you need a extra branch to fill space. If you have More shoots than you need then you should prune the strongest and then the weakest shoot first and also any shoot growing down. Old needles are removed on strong branches and cut back on weaker branches. Longer shoots are shortened to be in proportion to the other shoots on the branch.

There are many ways to do things, but only one "best" way.

Hi Mark,
I am glad you have found Ausbonsai (thanks to Neli) you would be surprised at how many of your friends in Australia are members here. Lots of them will post and many others just look.
I will take great interest in your adventure and look foreward to hearing what you have to teach us when you return.

Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.
