pre-bonsai ash

Post by craigw60 »

These are some ash I have grown from seedlings which come up in the garden. They are around the 10 to 12 year mark about 7 of those in the ground being root pruned annually. A few years of refining and these should be good trees.

Indeed.

Look like some real rippers amongst.

Out of interest when do you give these the hard prune?
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Lovely trunks Craig! Very cool that they started from seedlings that popped up in your garden. I really have to arrange a trip to your place one of these days!

Thanks for the comments. Boics I have just done that, but really ash are very forgiving trees so you could prune the top pretty much any time, I slaughter the roots on younger trees like these at this time, I then scar the under side of the trunks with big parrot beak cutters which encourages basal flare.
Matthew you are very welcome and I will be here on sunday, there is a bit of stock around but I am selling most of my trees through Jeff at Chojo feature trees these days.

Sorry Steven, you would be very welcome. Ash are amongst a litany of terrible weed trees we have in the dandenongs.
