Using very high nitrogen ferts.

Post by Paulneill »

I bought some very cheap fertiliser from the reject shop last summer that had a npk of something like 50/10/10
And gave it a go with some of my trees am trying to fatten and had some very interesting results most trees in the ground got a lot of good corse growth and trunks are getting fat . My figs tridents/ plums are responding especially well
This makes sense and its simple.
I just thought to mention it as I have never read of anyone doing this.

I would never use high nitrogen fert if building parts of the tree that will be used to avoid long internodes . Infact I won't be fertilising at all when growing sections of tree that matter eg. Trunk sections/ branches

No mate. but remember the post (how to develop dynamic figs quickly). We're figs are grown in large boxs and using dynamic lifter.
I reckon nothing beats the ground and high N when trying to add trunk size.

I got a port Jackson fig air layer to go from one inch to 3 inches thick in 1.5 years in the ground and really started to grow with the high N .
