Golden Gumballs

Post by SteveW »

These autumn pics of Gumball liquid ambers are for LisaK, who originally grew them. They now guard the entry to the other bonsai.

Gumball is a dwarf that grows to about 3m.

Golden Gumballs

Post by Beano »

Mine is yellowing only a few leaves at a time so far, then they drop and the tree is green again. Nice gum balls you have. The street one down the road is orange!

Are they grafted? I assumed that mine was but now I'm not convinced that it is, there just isn't an obvious graft line.

Yes, they are grafted. The graft is high up, just below the lowest branches. Great for bonsai as they are compact growers.

A few years ago I came across what appeared to be a dwarf liquidamber in a large garden at Beechworth. It may be the same as these. I have grown a cutting from that tree. The cutting appears to also be dwarf so probably not necessary to be grafted?

I will take some cuttings and see what happens. They grow to 3m in the garden.

The graft line is just below the bottom branches.
