Alnus Glutinosa - Black Alder
Hi all - I've done a thorough search of this tree and i can't see if anyone has posted much about it.
Do you have any out there in your back yards and can you tell if they are viable as stock material? It seems they are omore on the larger side and perhaps won't reduce leaf size as much as the Italian Alder....
I have the opportunity of getting some trees that are about 10 cm across the base with some interesting movement lower down and they LOOK like they would backbud very well with planty of small leaf lets ready to go....
Is it worth a try in your opinions....

Have a two man carry black alder. It's a multi truck and very seriously established. Don't know how to take pics, sorry. They do take to dramatic root pruning very well and reducing leaf size is similar to any acer. Hope this helps

Thanks Watto, what a great trunk love what you did with it. I didn’t know there was a deciduous one. I had the Evergreen Italian one but I was never happy with it grew like a weed. In the end I just gave it away. Your trunk carving is very inspiring i think I’d like to do that to a Peach stump I have.
