Re: Ground layer technique
The toothpick method is supposed to encourage new roots to grow by drilling small holes into the live tissue and inserting a toothpick to hold the wound open. This is my first time trying it .

Re: Ground layer technique
Yeah ok.
Will the roots push the toothpicks out or grow around them? Sorry for my ignorance but I have never heard of this. I Plan on improving the roots on most of my collected trees. Start from the roots up people say, so any info and advice on techniques can only help my progression and skills.
cheers

The tooth picks had completely decomposed, leaving roots in their wake. Best of luck.

Re: Ground layer technique
Here is another tree I tried this technique with. The results were very good and the roots had grown evenly . All I did was hose the dirt off around them . You can see the plastic under the roots . This tree is a benji.

Re: Ground layer technique
It appears that the toothpicks have been placed below the original cut, I fear that without live bark at the site of the toothpick the project is doomed. I hope you prove me wrong

Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.
