Repotting now

I was just reading in the Wiki that you can repot ever greens now.
March
Most natives can be repotted throughout the summer months. Watch for bud movement and then repot and root prune then
Repotting of all evergreens can start now, but if you are experiencing hot weather, then delay till next month
Wire can be placed on Evergreens as they will be slowing down growth for winter
Now is a good time to take hardwood cuttings from trees
April
Repotting of all evergreens can be done now
Heavy Branch Pruning of Pines should be done during April
Repot and Root Prune Flowering Quince and Cherry
Apply Wire to Needle evergreens
As temps reduce, you can reduce the watering frequency so the soil does not stay wet
Take Leafy Semi-hardwood cuttings of Banksia now
If your reducing the root ball would that not slow the growth down. Just wondering is that such a good idea coming into winter as they need their strength and energy through winter.
What is the thought behind repotting these trees now????
I have several trees I want to get into bonsai pots but a bit nervous doing it now. I would have thought coming out of winter just before or as they begin to put out new spring growth.

2 things when I wrote most of the Wiki to remember.

It is done with Sydney in mind for date as it is centrally locate along the different lattitudes of the country. You may well have to adjust the dates to suit you local conditions
Eg generally the more southern you go, the earilier in Autumn you can work.

The other thing it it is a compilation of many different ideas and thoughts, so again keep in mind your local conditions.

Having said that, give it a go and give us all feed back. I will be starting my Evergreen repotting in a few weeks as it still to warm here at the moment

I took some hardwood cuttings of some natives last weekend, and none ,as yet, show any signs of browning or dropping leaves and I live in Southeast SA.
Fingers crossed though. Might be too early to make any judgements.

Thanks Ken, that's a good point about adjusting to local area. I worked in a nursery for many years (along time ago) and spring was our main repotting time so adjusting my way of thinking is taking a bit to do. I have so far potted a couple of olives (only small ones) and a privet, all powering on. So now to do the others and see.

Hi Josh, I potted cedar,jbp,jrp and radiata last weekend. Autumn is my preferred potting time for conifers they don't miss a beat. These are all older established trees so there was not much root pruning involved more a matter of changing the potting mix.
Yesterday morning I dug a yew out of the garden.
For me its a bit late to do natives I like them to be settled in and growing this time of year, its a great time to be building ramification on them as they should grow like mad from now until mid winter.

Hi Adam, december, january for me. You could probably do them earlier in warmer parts of vic but up here its when I can be sure there is not going to be any more cold weather.

I am currently checking ground layers in my Azalea and junipers for repot now. Not too many more hot days left in this Autumn I hope
