Jacqueline Hellier Elm

Post by bebe »

Hi folks, I'm new to bonsai and so I suppose like most, I'm collecting new plants and 'potensai' at a rate of knots. Over the weekend I picked up three small seedlings of a variety of English Elm called Jacqueline Hellier, which has leaves very similar to Chinese Elm, but they sprout from virtually every leaf node and form a new branchlet. I've seen a mature tree of this variety at one of my club meetings, and it was a really lovely tree. However it will need a certain amount of skill I think to prune for the right effect, and maintain shape in the longer term. I can't find any information about this variety anywhere on the 'net, is there anyone who can give me advice on care, training and some other examples to look at??

cheers, BB

They are extremely fragile when it comes to wiring or bending; so don't bother trying is the best advice.

Thin out to a structure you like then clip and grow after that.

Hi bebe, the reason you haven't found the wanted info on the net is that you've got the name wrong. The correct spelling is Jacqueline Hillier, not Hellier. Enter the correct name into Google and you'll find heaps of info, photos included.
